The evening's guest is British author Geoff Allnut (The Speech Painter).

A visually enhanced spoken word performance at the museum “Latvians in the World” in Berga Bazaar will take place as part of the contemporary culture forum "Baltā nakts" (White Night).

British poet and author "The Speech Painter" will recite his poems "Fragments from Home" and "Letters from Aina Tass".

The poems tell the story of Latvian Arvīds Pūrs, who, having become a legionnaire during World War II, ended up in Great Britain after the war. Arvīds spent his old age with the Alnats family. In the poems, the author reflects on Arvīds' life story, migration, war experiences, his childhood memories and the nuances of family dynamics.

The performance will be in English. A translation into Latvian will be available to visitors in printed form and via a QR code.
The show will last approximately 20 minutes and will start at 7:30 p.m.; 9:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

The performance will take place on September 6 at 7:30 PM, 9:30 PM and 11:30 PM at the museum “Latvians in the World” in Riga, Dzirnavu Street 84. Admission is free.

The goal of the “Baltā nakts” is to motivate society to discover the diversity of contemporary culture and to arouse wider interest in cultural events, expressions and changes. The “White Night” takes place both in the city centre and in other neighbourhoods, revealing a city that is open to residents and guests of the city of different ages, nationalities and social groups. The “White Night” events traditionally take place not only in places that are familiar to culture and art, but also in unusual environments, contributing to expanding the boundaries of perception of the concept of culture.
